FRFC Awards Rugby Scholarships to Two Perrysburg Players

The Findlay Rugby Football Club announced Alexandra Nguyen and Britney Rose as the recipients of its spring 2020 scholarships. Each student-athlete will receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship payable to the school or training institution of their choice, courtesy the club.

Alex will attend Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to study digital forensics. She plans to continue her rugby career, too, as a member of the school’s women’s team this fall. In her three years playing at the high school level, Alex scored 285 points, the second highest in club history. Marc Goddard, her coach, praised Alex’s offensive capabilities and hopes to see her improve even more: “Davenport, under great mentorship, is the perfect club for Alex to rise to the very top of the game in this country.”

Britney will attend Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio, to study intervention and coaching. Britney will play rugby on the school’s team, having played only one full season in high school. Coach Goddard said Britney, a former soccer player, took to the game naturally, using her speed both offensively and defensively to score 12 tries during the season, second on the leader board. “Notre Dame College is getting an excellent raw talent eager to play,” he added.

The Findlay Rugby Football Club is a public charity based in Findlay, Ohio that promotes the sport across northwest Ohio. Its annual scholarship contest is open to junior and seniors who play rugby in northwest Ohio and are pursuing higher education. The scholarships are based on academic merit, writing ability, community service and rugby ability.
